The Herb Shop is a retail herb store located on the historic Independence Square in Independence, Missouri --jumping off point for the Oregon, Santa Fe, and California trails, and also the home of the 42nd President, Harry Truman.

Since 1987 people have come to 206 West Maple in Independence  for their herbal needs. We hope you will get to know us and perhaps come to share our enthusiasm for herbs, spices, fragrances,nice music and more of the good things that we offer.

We give classes on herbs, herb gardening, pet care, aromatherapy, and whatever else strikes our fancy.

I've been in the healing arts for almost twenty-five years. It started with my first foot massage while I was attending the School of Metaphysics located in Bloomington, Illinois, back in 1975. From there, it didn't take long for me to get real involved with health and healing. Not long after my third or fourth foot massage, I was teaching my own healing class using creative visualization and getting some interesting results. By the early 80s I had received my massage certification, and began to look at other healing practices. I next received instruction in therapeutic touch, and found out about lactose and wheat intolerance. After I received my initiation into Reiki I found out about monosodium glutamate ("msg") and just about died. Rude awaking but thus began my quest in earnest. I had been plagued with all the little childhood problems, colds, flus, behavior problems and what-not, and now began to put it all together. So, having done all the doctor-related stuff (everything from x-rays and drugs to psychoanalysis), I decided to try the natural approach. My first real experience was working for House of Hezekiah. By the end of five years I was running the place, and had tried every combination of herbs on the shelves. Many things seemed to work but were only temporary. Then I spent three years in Arizona and ended up running a health food store. There, of course, I thoroughly explored the vitamin realm with the same results -- success -- but again temporary. Back to good old KC and the House of Hezekiah for another year, this time using vitamin supplements, herbs, and diet with great success.

After over twenty years of experience, the system I have put together can work for just about any one, and you to can be as I am: allergy-free.
